Project Rediscovery

While the Baltic Sea region is known around the world for its unique beauty, people in Finland and Sweden often forget just how truly magical it can be.

Inspired by Marcel Proust’s famous words: “the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands, but seeing with new eyes,” the Baltic’s leading cruise operator Silja Line invited three professional photographers from around the world to take their first cruise across the Baltic Sea.

The cruise virgins were Tokyo-based Joji Shimamoto, Olivia Bee from New York and Alejandro Chaskielberg from Buenos Aires, who had never been to the Nordic region before. They were given an open brief to share their own experiences and to capture the beauty of the Baltic Sea and the northern mid-summer through the new eyes of a first time traveller.

The result is the Project Rediscovery website where each photographer has a gallery featuring not only their photos, but also videos that tell a story about themselves and their journeys.

The work appeared internationally as well as in the Finnish and Swedish markets. The campaign includes TVC, website, online display and shareable videos, POS and print. The campaign culminated with an exhibition and charity auction of the images and a documentary aired on TV and got widespread PR visibility in digital and print media around the world.
